Thank you for your interest in the Queer Lifting Series!

We are hoping that this 6-week class can a be a catalyst for the LGGBTQIA2S+ community to create a strong, healthy relationship with exercise as a way to love themselves and their body. The series was designed to build 3 things:

  • COMPETENCE in the foundational movement patterns that you can use to build a healthier, stronger body.

  • CONFIDENCE in your ability to perform strength training safely and effectively.

  • CONNECTION through a community of like-minded individuals.

Each 6-week series includes one (60-minute) class per week, where you will focus on progressing your understanding and technique of 1-3 strength training exercises throughout the 6-weeks. Each class will end with a group workout that will be scaled to each individual's current fitness level and skill.

The main focus of this this series is to introduce those brand new, or with limited experience, how to safely perform strength training in a safe environment without judgement.

If you are wondering if the Queer Lifting Series is right for you, do not hesitate to reach out and we can set up a complimentary phone call to discuss all of your questions to determine if it will be beneficial for you or not.

FAQs

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable gym clothes and bring some runners or whatever shoes you will feel comfortable working out in. Don't have any? Just socks is fine! But remember that most gyms DO require you to wear shoes, so getting used to the shoes that you will be working out in may be helpful.

You may want to layer up a bit as the gym can sometimes be a little on the chilly side until you get moving.

Where is the gym located at and where can I park?

You can find the Apollo Performance Therapy gym and clinic at 1410 Quadra Street in Downtown Victoria. We are located right between Johnson Street and Pandora Ave (see map below).

There is ample street parking around. All along Johnson Street has parking, and the Johnson Street parkade is only a 2 block walk away. There is parking along Quadra directly across the street from the clinic (when driving away from Johnson and towards Pandora).

What time should I show up?

Class begins at 7pm and runs until 8pm. Try to show up 5-10 minutes early and find yourself some space around the entrance or on the left side of the gym by the cabinets/desk top.

Our clinicians may be finishing up with their final clients of the day when you arrive, but please feel free to come in and and make yourself feel comfortable.

What can I expect at each session?

The Queer Lifting Series will be a combination of education/coaching time and workout time. We want you to leave this 6-week series with a strong understanding of how to safely perform, progress, and load the movements so you can hit the gym with confidence.

The goal will be to build upon each session, starting the the basics of technique and building up to more advanced movements over the 6 weeks.

We find that the best way to learn anything is by experiencing it, so we will be trying to do a lot more moving than teaching. Expect to get a little bit of a sweat on and work hard!

What if I am unable to perform some of the movements?

Not to worry! At Apollo, we are experts at helping people modify and get started with exercise. We spend all day, every day helping people dealing with pain, injuries, and chronic discomfort get back to doing these movements in a way that is comfortable, safe, and most importantly of all, effective.

The beauty is that all of the movements we will be focusing on are infinitely scalable, meaning that we will able to meet you where you are and give you an option that will accomplish the same goal, no matter where you are starting from.

Anything else I should I bring with me?

Bring a water bottle for water (can fill in the bathroom sink throughout the class as needed). Other than that, just bring some excitement and and open mind!
